Delegate Body Meeting Updates

The Delegate Body met on July 5th and had a very productive meeting.

  • The delegates unanimously agreed to:

    • Set the last Sunday of each Month as the new meeting date;

      • THUS, the next Delegate Body meeting will be on Sunday 7/26.

    • Create a "rulebook" for governing Delegate Body procedures;

    • Elect Eisenhardt as temporary Chair of the Delegate Body for a 3 month term;

    • Certify the Admin Committee's Policy to delete the old Google Drive on August 5th after archiving it one more time.

  • The delegates discussed a proposed resolution from L and khaver malke to establish commemorative dates for the IJLB to observe and will be voting on the proposed resolution at the next meeting.

  • The delegates discussed some potential amendments to Resolution #27 to:

    • Codify that the Delegate Body will have a "rulebook" (but not the rules within it themselves);

    • Formalize the Delegate Body Chair and Convener selection process and more actively solicit candidates for the roles; and

    • Allow voting delegates to serve as conveners.

  • The delegates discussed including rules around voting in absentia in the new "rulebook," so Admin withdrew its policy that the Delegate Body had asked it to produce on the topic.

New Policies from the Standing Committees

  • Admin passed Policy #4 at their 7/7 meeting after certification from the Delegate Body which reads as follows: "The Google Drive will be archived one last time and then deleted in one month's time from the certification of this policy by the Delegate Body."

    • Check the Proton Drive for the background and reasoning for this policy.

Standing Committee Updates

Admin Committee Updates:

  • The Airtable Working Working Group (AT WG) formed to explore alternatives to Airtable for managing membership information.

    • The AT WG will be meeting on Wednesday 7/15 at 5:00 PM EDT (9:00 PM UTC).

  • The Email Management Working Group (EM WG) presented a comparison table for analyzing different options for inbox management and mass emailing service.

    • The EM WG will be meeting on Friday 7/17 at 5:30 PM EDT (9:30 PM UTC).

  • The Internal Governance Working Group (IG WG) met on Monday 7/13 at 5:30 PM EDT (9:30 PM UTC) and discussed the following:

    • A proposed resolution clarifying expectations and setting minimal requirements for both Organizing Committees and Chapters;

    • Potential updates to Resolution #27 based on discussions at the most recent Delegate Body as discussed above; and

    • Delegate Body representation for our four marginalized identity caucuses.

Comms Committee Updates:

  • Created a new Social Media Working Group to recruit a team of at least three people to steward the IJLB's Instagram and to create a voice guide and approval process for posts to the Instagram account.

Education Committee Updates:

  • Started an initiative to celebrate the founding of the original Bund around Yom Kippur. The day after Yom Kippur is Tuesday 9/22 this year and is the target date.

    • Seeking assistance and input from the other committees as well as from the Chapters.

  • Looking for volunteers to help develop small, introductory courses about revolutionary Yiddish and Ladino.

Khavershaft Committee Updates:

  • Hosting the first No Homework Book Club on Sunday 8/2 at 1:00 PM EDT (5:00 PM UTC) where participants will read and discuss one essay and one folktale together.

    • Essay and folktale suggestions are due by Tuesday 7/21.

Standing Committee Meeting Schedule

  • Regular meeting times:

    • Admin meets every two weeks on Tuesdays at 5:30 PM EDT (9:30 PM UTC).

      • The next meeting is on 7/21.

    • Communications meets every two weeks on Mondays at 5:30 PM EDT (9:30 PM UTC).

      • The next meeting is on 7/20.

    • Education meets every two weeks on Wednesdays at 1:00 PM EDT (5:00 PM UTC).

      • The next meeting is on 7/29.

  • Scheduled, irregular meetings:

    • Khavershaft met on Tuesday 7/14 at 7:00 PM EDT (11:00 PM UTC) and will be scheduling its next meeting soon.

  • All meetings will be announced in the IJLB Announcements Signal Chat in advance!

Local Chapter Updates

  • Chicagoland:

    • Membership grew by ~50%, with the onboard of 9 new members since the June Delegate Body meeting bringing Chicagoland well over the 2 voting delegate mark.

      • Now accepting members from some of the broader Mid-West including Wisconsin, Iowa, and Missouri with goals of enabling more local OCs to form in these areas by connecting folks and providing administrative resources and experience.

    • Drafted local onboard document that includes:

      • Local Charter, Committee Structure, and OC Roles.

      • Held initial Communications Committee Meeting focused on social media restart and grassroots marketing methods (such as stickers, posters, etc).

  • NYC:

    • Membership continues to grow with over 40 active members.

    • Passed a charter that defines membership, active membership, some initial rules around decision making, and creates a coordinating committee that the NYC chapter will be holding elections to fill in the coming months.

  • GSB:

    • On July 5th, the day of the last Delegate Body meeting, the Golden State Bund became the 8th official chapter of the IJLB!
