Dear Bundists,

In this week’s meeting, the PSC passed Resolution #13 which defines Provisional Membership, and mandates a new form for Bundists to commit to our Principles of Unity and Code of Conduct!

This is a massive step forward that will help us move toward official Bund membership based on aligned values and a healthy culture within our emerging organization. With recognized members, the IJLB will be able to lay out clearer procedures regarding local chapters, committees, and democratic decision-making.

To become a Provisional Member of the International Jewish Labor Bund, you can sign up while filling out the IJLB intake form. If you’ve already filled out the intake form, we’ve created a separate Provisional Membership Agreement so you don’t have to fill out all of the intake form’s required fields again. The Provisional Membership Agreement consists of the Principles of Unity laid out by the Ideology Committee and Code of Conduct from the Moderation & Mediation Committee, both of which can be found in Appendix I of Resolution #13. As outlined in the resolution, Provisional Membership is a prerequisite to serving as a Committee Convener, voting or running in the next Provisional Steering Committee election, and chartering a Local Chapter via the process we’ve elaborated with the Local Development Committee.

The process described above is the 3-10-3 Structure outlined in Resolution #9. We appreciate all of the feedback we’ve gotten from Local Development, and based on our khaveyrim’s questions we’ve made a little diagram to show how it works:

[diagram is unavailable in this format - reach out to the Admin Committee for a copy]

If you’d like to try the 3-10-3 organizing process with your local, please feel free to dive right in and let us know how it goes! We’ll be experimenting right alongside you with our own locals, and we plan on creating more detailed guidance for establishing a chapter of the Bund. Both our attempts at implementing the 3-10-3 structure and your own experiences, questions, and feedback will help us determine what should be included in that guidance.

In addition to the above, the PSC has agreed to the following action points:

  • Continue work on JewishBund.org

  • Determine channels of communication for each committee, and connect those who expressed interest in committee interest form to each committee channel

  • Assist in building out Moderation & Mediation committee capacity

  • Set up a meeting with the Melbourne Jewish Labour Bund
