Dear Bundists,

First of all, we apologize for the delayed release of this bulletin. These are historic times and we have been hard at work organizing the Bund locally, transnationally, and as part of the wider local/international Diasporist Jewish Movement.

It was wonderful seeing so many new and old faces at our General Membership meeting last week. We reviewed our work process as the PSC and presented a summary of our 15 passed Resolutions before discussing our next crucial steps: the upcoming election of three additional PSC members, and the creation of a body of delegates to root the governance of the Bund in local organizations. You can find the minutes of the General Meeting here.

The election to expand the PSC with 3 additional candidates (Max, River and Suz) will take place from February 10th to 17th, more details on how voting will take place will be in our next bulletin. There is currently an asynchronous townhall running on our discord in the #candidate-q-and-a channel. If you’re not on Discord, you can read questions and our candidates’ responses here or email questions to psc@jewishbund.org!

If you filled out the IJLB Intake Form before December 19th, and/or have yet to apply to become a provisional member, please fill out this form to ensure you can participate in the election! If you don’t know which forms you’ve filled out and haven’t received a Provisional Membership confirmation email within the next week, please contact us at psc@jewishbund.org and we’ll get back to you as soon as we can.

We’ve put together a directory of active Signal chats for committees, working groups, and other initiatives that have them. Please note that we have a couple new groups we’d like to encourage people to join:

  • Graphic Design Working Group - For logos, graphics, social media content, etc.

  • History Working Group - Research, education, oral history interviews, etc.

Last week our Ideology and Education Committee had a very productive meeting which laid out the immense amount of work this important committee has on its plate. From creating a summary of Bundist ideology, to crowdsourcing a reading/educational resource list, reviving our reading group, putting on transnational educational events and much more. If you’re interested in helping take part in this work please join our Signal chat here. If you’d like to help us finalize a Summary of Bund Ideology please leave comments on the already talmudic document, and if you’re available, join us online at 10:30am PT/1:30pm ET/ 7:30pm ECT tomorrow for a 90 minute work meeting!

One thing that came up in the Id&Ed meeting was coordinating local actions and an online gathering for the April 19th Warsaw Ghetto Uprising Commemoration. This is a long-standing tradition of international Bundists, and in this moment of ascendant fascism, ghettoization and genocide, is one we must handle with a balance of force and sensitivity. We look forward to planning this coordinated action in our locals (in dialogue with the Local Development Committee) and our Ideology and Education Committee.

Local Development is looking to have another meeting soon! We’re planning to discuss chapter development, the concrete steps to form the delegate body discussed at the General Membership Meeting, and what the role of the Local Development Committee will take as the Bund grows. If you’d like to attend, please fill out your availability here and take a moment to review the minutes from the last meeting.

We currently have one officially declared chapter, congratulations to DMV (DC, Maryland Virginia) for being the first chapter to hold a local election and fill out our chapter certification form. However, we have chartered Organizing Committees that are poised to officialize their chapters in Chicagoland, Montana, Golden Gate (NorCal), New York City, and Europe (seeding organizing committees in Krakow the Netherlands and elsewhere). Our Membership and Onboarding committee will also be working to connect new local signups and help bring together new official organizing committees and chapters.

Finally, our membership at the time of writing are currently: 127 confirmed Provisional Members, 25 awaiting approval. If you applied for Provisional Membership and haven’t heard from us yet, we’ll be sending out another round of membership confirmation emails soon!

If you have a project you’d like to promote, a local win you’d like to celebrate, or a request or offer for mutual aid, please submit your announcement to the Provisional Steering Committee via our email and we’ll include it in the next Bulletin!

As always, you can find summaries of all our meetings here, and you can reach us for questions, feedback, or to tell us to write shorter emails at psc@jewishbund.org. Thank you!
